Casements, Sliders, or Double-Hungs - How to Decide?
Wednesday May 14, 2008
A reader with a wind problem finds that his two year-old slider windows do not keep drafts out of his house. He asks whether casements or double-hung windows are an alternative to sliders.
My dislike (read: hatred) for casement windows is legendary. I have spent more time in my life repairing casement window cranks and shuddering on toilets due to cold winter air seeping through cracked seals than I care to enumerate. Casement windows are nothing less than the Devil's work. So there you have it. Casements are out.
What's left? Well, the lovely, ever-popular double-hung window, that's what! Oh, and there is yet another option that many homeowners never consider.
