Quick! Learn 3 Replacement Window Terms You Didn't Know Before

Thursday May 15, 2008
Double Hung Window Before you go into a meeting with a replacement window company (that is, before the replacement window company intends to assault you with meaningless facts and illusory sales-talk), you had best know a few things about windows. The basic stuff you should know is that double-hung windows are the most popular, cheapest, and do the best job at keeping your house warm in winter and cool in summer. While not as popular in residences (though you find it everywhere in office buildings) is the fixed window or single-hung window style, which basically cannot be opened. And those panes of glass that go up and down (for the double-hungs) or in and out like a door (for casements) - those are called the window sashes. There you go - now you're armed with at least three window terms that you didn't know before, prepared to do battle with those ever-friendly replacement window companies.
