Even though it sounds like an oxymoron, "
cheap replacement windows" is not a contradiction of terms. In fact, replacement windows are one of those home remodeling projects where you have a vast pool of ready, willing, and able installers--thus ensuring competition and lower prices. In other words, why not replace your windows? I have successfully shaved off thousands of dollars from replacement window projects by applying a few simple tips, one of which is to avoid the name brands. The reason is not that the name brands are bad; in fact, they are often good products. But there are so many manufacturers out there offering knock-off products that look, feel, and operate pretty much the same way the Pellas and Andersens and Marvins do, but at less cost. Window technology has evolved so much in the past ten years that it would be crazy not to investigate some of the no-name brands.
