Working with "Galley Style" Kitchen Designs
Monday August 11, 2008
It's a bit unfair to call "corridor style" kitchens galley-style. But I've heard the latter more often than the former. To me, galley-style implies boats and RV's.
Recently, while touring a home, I saw a corridor-style kitchen that worked quite well, and I've known people who do corridor styles with real panache. Space is the real issue here: often, you're crammed in-between two walls and don't have much else to work with.
On the other hand, there are homeowners who purposely design a corridor style kitchen. They may have an open side fronting a living room or family room. While few people will voluntarily put a wall between kitchen and living space, many will build a kitchen island or peninsula to add extra cooking and cabinet space, as well as to divide kitchen from open space.

Hi. The kitchen island – aptly named because it is unattached and permits access from all sides – adds extra work space as well as decoration to our kitchen.
Thank you.
Nancy.
