Is it Possible to Prevent Future Clogs in Your Bathtub and Sink Drains?

Thursday August 28, 2008
Yes, sort of. Admittedly, this is a bit of an old wives tale, but I still like it. The tip is that you can prevent future clogs in your sinks and bathtub by regularly discharging ultra-hot water down the drain about every two weeks or so. The thinking is that when you look at other systems that discharge very hot water at high volume, such as dishwashers, those drains have a tendency not to clog. So, the tip is that you need to fill the bathtub or sink with the hottest possible water every couple of weeks, let it stand for a second, open the stopper, and then follow with high-volume hot water for about 30 seconds. Following this regimen should prevent future clogs in your sink and bathtub drains. Whether it works or not is debatable, but I sure like it.
