Permaglaze

At some point--perhaps due to comments from readers--I decided to dig deep into the often-shifty world of bathtub refinishing. It's a fast, inexpensive way to spiff up your bathtub or shower, just as all those ads claim. My conclusion: It's better than you might think, and it does work.

Does it work forever? No. It will peel eventually (it's paint, after all). Can you do it yourself? Yeah, sorta-kinda...not really. Is it cheaper than a bathtub liner? Yes. So, presented for you here is the entire universe of "everything bathtub refinishing related" (at least to this point!), from About Home Renovations:

I operate Total Koatings in Sarasota, Florida. http://www.totalkoatings.com. After reading the various articles related to Bathtub Refinishing, I feel I must point out some blatent misinformation.

Miracle Method and Permaglaze and nowhere near the largest in the industry. Nor do they set the standards. Not even close.

I am a franchisee of Kott Koatings of California. John Kott started the industry over 50 years ago when he developed the industry leading Kott Koatings K-40 Glazes. This is an exclusive silica based porcelain glaze developed in a lab specifically for this application. K-40 glazes creates a chemical bond to the porcelain, with out the need for primers or acid etching.

Approved by the FDA as safe and non-toxic, it is the only refinishing glaze approved for use in food service areas (ie. your kitchen sink) Our porcelain glazes are totally safe and non-toxic. Plus, with over 1600 franchises worldwide we dwarf the other guys.

Thank you for reading.

I would not recommend any kind of Kott Coating….we had it done to our tub 3 years ago and within a year it was peeling and flaking. the guy came out and touched it up, and within MONTHS it was peeling and flaking again. A total waste of money!!! SCAM!!

This is totally misleading. I know for a fact the Miracle Method has problem with tubs peeling sometimes.i worked for a Miracle Method Franchisee and they had tubs that peeled before the warranty period. Miracle Method does not even make their materials, they buy the same materials from the same vendors that most refinishers use. They still also use epoxy primers which are the worst. Just google Miracle Method complaints and you will see complaints.

We had our bathtub reglazed and the bathtub started chipping about a week after the process was finished. The LLC gave us a 5 year warranty and of course a one sided type of contract (hindsight 20/20) and now all we have is a cell phone number to track the guy so that he can repair and fulfill the warranty. We did everything the instructions called for and as a matter of fact we did nit use the tub until it was completely dry for a week. I know that this is not a complaint venue but do beware of these coupon advertising scam artists. I know we were stupid not to see the company had no business address or lic#on the contract. 800.00 later we have learned our lesson
