The Age-Old Question: Where to Buy DIY Replacement Windows?

Saturday December 6, 2008
replacement windows

Yes, it is the age-old question, because it's never quite been solved: where can a homeowner go to buy replacement windows? And we're talking about just the windows, not the entire installation package which drives up the price 400%. It's not an easy answer, either.

A reader asked me this question. In my response, I offer up a couple of suggestions; but more than anything, I outline what a homeowner is up against when considering DIY replacement window installation.

What it all come down to is one question. Even when I have talked to window industry insiders, no one can answer this question to my satisfaction, and the question is: Why can I not go down to my local home improvement store, tell them I want 20 replacement windows of X by Y dimensions, and buy them?
