It is high time for a review of Bellawood prefinished wood flooring. Readers ask about Bellawood because its outlet, Lumber Liquidators, is rapidly spreading throughout the country. Lumber Liquidators positions itself as a cheap, no-nonsense hardwood and engineered flooring source...and that is not too far from the truth. Their showrooms are little more than bare-bones offices stuck onto the front of warehouses, and this is a good thing. Other than the perennial short staffing, Lumber Liquidators has just about all you need.

The only caveat here is the big problem Bellawood has with boards which crack, split, and break. It's not just me. Troll the Interweb tubes and you'll find the same stories from consumers. It's not necessarily a deal-breaker, though. Waste is a fact of life in flooring installation. It's just a question of how much waste is too much.

Hi, Lee, found you via our shared last name, but stayed for the great information! I’m having my place in Seattle floored, and I’m going with “Empire Today” – the big company often advertised on television. Have you heard anything about this company? I’m wondering if it’s a solid choice.

I am on my second bellawood flooring and I am far from a fan of it. The first flooring was installer error and the second install, as far as I know, is not. I chose the Brazilian Teakwood pattern for the varying shades of brown and stark blonde planks. When I had to have that flooring redone I wanted the same colour, however, it is not the same flooring even though the item numbers are the same. This new floor is more along shades of cherry and I absolutely hate it. Now, I am seeing splits and pits everywhere, and just recently was told it planks are “cupping” and this could be due to cheap wood and/or not being dried in the kiln long enough. Its a good thing I have kept the left over boxes for repair. I wouldnt recommend this stuff to anybody.
