Online Calculators that Don't Suck

Online calculators for home improvement projects--vinyl siding, roofing, tiling, flooring, etc.--are so deceitful! Have you ever experienced the following:

You find what looks like a good online calculator for...siding, let's say. You take the trouble to measure your house. You diligently plug all the numbers into this dicey-looking online calculator that looks like it was built back in 1995. You have great hopes. You press "Calculate." And then...

"Thank you. A customer service representative will contact you shortly with a price estimate."

Grrrrr! Over time, I've been mentally collecting online calculators for home improvement projects. Finally, I got around to writing down a few of them. None of the online calculators listed here lead into "Call us for a free estimate," in lieu of spitting back some real numbers. Some of these calculators will give back a rough dollar estimate; some won't. Some are great; some passable.
