This is what a kitchen from 1936 looks like.
It's the kind of kitchen I imagine Nick and Nora (from The Thin Man) hanging out in, pouring yet another shaker of Martinis.
It was located at 19 East 72nd St., New York, NY. The building, a Candela, is your ordinary non-descript limestone-clad apartment building just off of Central Park.
No date is given for the kitchen, but the building was constructed in 1936, so we will call it 1936. And it looks about right, too.
Functional metal cabinets. "Farmhouse" style sink. Electric toaster. Note those neat little cabinets right over the stove.
Seventeen stories, 40 units originally. Turned into a co-op in 1949. The building still stands.

___________
From The Thin Man (1934)
Nora: Is that my drink over there?
Nick: What are you drinking?
Nora: Rye.
Nick: (He picks up glass and slugs down its contents.) Yes. That's yours.
