In my book, pre-taped masking film is not a luxury--it's an essential painting tool. Having looked at other masking films, I was interested to try out QuickMask Masking Film.

What is QuickMask?

Made by HomeRight, QuickMask is a poly 21' wide by 70" long masking film. Like other poly films, it is intended to cling to surfaces. One edge has a strip of masking tape.

Additionally, QuickMask comes on a plastic spool with cutting teeth.

I have some problems with Easy Mask® Tape & Drape™, a similar product made by a different company. With Tape & Drape, once you remove the product packaging, you have no idea how wide the film is. This can really be a problem when you're juggling a number of Tape & Drape rolls or if you haven't dealt with them in a long time. Also, Tape & Drape only comes in loose rolls--no dispenser.

QuickMask's plastic dispenser solves these problems. Specs are always on the spool for you to see. Another great thing: cutting teeth on the dispenser.

Quirks

However, the cutting teeth--wide and sharp though they are--don't cleanly cut the film off. It's more a matter of raggedly gnawing off the film. But my view is that some cutting tool is better than no cutting tool (hint, hint, Tape & Drape).

Also the adhesive strip is regular beige masking tape, not low-stick blue painter's tape. Does this matter to you? Then just remember to pull off the tape sooner rather than later. Keeping masking tape in place more than 14 days isn't advisable. And honestly, even blue painter's tape is hard to remove by that point, too.
