Bathroom Code - Lights and Electrical
Bathroom Code Basics

All lights must be waterproof.

Bathroom code as it relates to electricity is quite a big deal, due to the possibility of shocks and fire.

So, you'll find that all lights over bathtubs and showers are required to be vapor- and waterproof.

Naturally, you don't want electrical outlets to shock you when you plug a hairdryer in, so they must be GFCI (ground fault current interrupter) outlets.

Bathroom code doesn't want you standing in tubs or showers while turning switches on or off, so switches must be sixty (60) inches minimum from these places.
