You will need to purchase some specialized, as well as some non-specialized, tools for your DIY drywall project. Fortunately, you can walk out of your local hardware store with a full complement of drywall tools—without having broken the bank.

DIY drywalling can be a fairly cost-effective project. Individual sheets of drywall are not very expensive, and if you buy in bulk from the contractor desk you can find even lower prices. Getting the drywall home is the biggest problem. As drywall is brittle, it is easy to break while putting it in your pickup or van. If you have anything less than a perfectly flat horizontal surface for hauling, chances are good that you will end up breaking your drywall, especially if you are dealing with thinner, quarter-inch types.
