Determine Electrical Switch Problems

Just like with electrical outlets, it is not necessary to call an electrician when you have simple problems with your wall switch. Let's isolate the problem and determine what is causing the problem. Nine out of ten times, the problem is with the light switch itself. Switches are easy and cheap to replace.

Circuit Breaker Trips or Fuse Burns Out

  • Replace fixture.
  • Loose wires within the light or affected device.
  • Overloaded circuit (lighten power load by moving lamps or appliances).

Switch Does Not Stay Up

Replace switch. Do not attempt to repair existing switch.

Switch Buzzes, is Warm, or Gives Off Sparks

  • Loose wires within switch.
  • Overloaded circuit (lighten power load by moving lamps or appliances).

Light Flickering

  • Bulb loose - try tightening.
  • Loose wires within the switch.
  • Overloaded circuit (lighten power load by moving lamps or appliances).
