Crawlspace - Crawl Space

Crawlspace

Public Domain: EPA
Definition: A crawlspace is an area under a raised house (that is, as opposed to a house built on a concrete slab) which is lower than a basement. A basement height might loosely be defined as an area in which you can stand upright or at a stoop. A crawl space would be about three feet high or lower.

Crawlspaces are sometimes covered in ground plastic to control moisture. Crawlspaces usually need ventilation, so you do not want to seal up crawlspaces.

Alternate Spellings: crawl space, crawl-space
Examples:
We laid out plastic in the crawlspace for mold remediation purposes.
