When you're researching kitchen remodeling and design, kitchen cabinets play a huge role. My off-the-cuff estimate is that kitchen cabinets comprise about 30%-40% of your entire kitchen remodel budget--minimum. Choose custom cabinets and that figure rises.
So it's worth researching the primary companies that manufacture kitchen cabinets, not just the retailers or distributors.
This list of kitchen cabinet companies is presented in no priority form. This is not a review of cabinet companies.
All Wood Cabinetry
All Wood Cabinetry is the name of the company and yes, the name of the product, too (except for one offering which is MDF/thermofoil and which they clearly indicate). Florida-based AWC makes plywood-core cabinets for kitchen and bathroom, most in classic, traditional styles--nothing ultra-Euro here. AWC is also notable because at the time of this writing (Jan. 2011), they were the supplier for Costco cabinets. To access Costco deals, do not use the link provided here; instead, go through the Costco site.
Aran USA
Don't let its bare-bones website fool you. Aran USA is the U.S. branch of super high-end Italian kitchen cabinet company Aran World.
Canyon Creek Cabinet Company
This Monroe, WA kitchen cabinet company's mission is to reconcile "affordable" with "custom." Operating since 1981, Canyon Creek creates "affordable custom framed and frameless style cabinetry," for any room in the house.
IKEA
While technically not a kitchen cabinet manufacturer, IKEA is such a huge distributor of kitchen cabinets (and primary manufacturers are unknown, though Snaidero USA is reportedly one of IKEA's sources), we feel safe including them in this list. IKEA "makes" high-style, low-cost, oddly-named kitchen cabinets.
InnerMost Cabinets
Found only at The Home Depot, InnerMost's big claim is that it "creates space." As it turns out, this subsidiary of Elkay (famous for stainless sinks), utilizes frameless cabinet construction to carve out those extra cubic inches.
Kraftmaid
Kraftmaid is the "big dog" of kitchen cabinets. Go to your local Home Depot or Lowe's and you'll find Kraftmaid stock kitchen cabinets on the shelves. But you'll also find Kraftmaid semi-custom kitchen cabinets offered at kitchen design companies.
Masco
Not a kitchen cabinet company itself, Masco is a conglomerate of mostly home improvement-related companies, including kitchen cabinet companies Kraftmaid, Quality Cabinets, and Merillat. Masco also owns the non cabinet-related Arrow, Behr, Duraflex, Milgard, and Cambrian.
Merillat
Like Kraftmaid, another huge kitchen cabinet manufacturer available through easy-to-access channels, such as your local kitchen remodel/design company. Merillat, a Michigan-based company, is owned by Masco, which also owns Mill's Pride and Kraftmaid. Merillat's Inspiration Gallery of kitchen design ideas is so impressive that I even featured it in a blog post.
Porcelanosa
Porcelanosa does more than just make kitchen cabinets. They also deal with bathrooms and tile. But in the kitchen, Porcelanosa excels in the manufacture of sleek, smooth European-style cabinetry. It also does manufacturer more traditional styles of cabinetry, as well. Based in Spain, Porcelanosa runs a tight ship with over 400 showrooms across the globe--entirely company-owned.
Quality Cabinets
A Texas-based kitchen cabinet company founded in 1969, Quality Cabinets' offerings tend to lean toward the more traditional--nothing out of the ballpark here. Quality Cabinets is yet another of Masco Corporation's subsidiaries.
