Extra Home Remodeling Improvements While Floor is Open

By Lee Wallender, About.com

You've got the floor open for a renovation project. What else can you do?

Extra Floor Improvements

  • Is the subfloor in good condition? If not, consider re-installing new subfloor with 1/2" plywood.
  • Do you even have a subfloor? If your floor tends to shake and be wobbly, perhaps this is time to put in a subfloor. This will stabilize your floor considerably.
  • Joists and beams. This is your rare opportunity to inspect the joists. Make sure they are in good condition. Sister any failing joists or buttress them from below with adjustable columns.
  • Add radiant floor heat.

Plan on opening up any exterior walls? Here are a few things you can do with the siding removed.
