You've got your house's siding off for a repair or a renovation project. Remember, opening up the exterior is essentially the same as opening up interior walls: you have access to the same space.
Extra Home Improvements While the Siding is Open
- Add new house-wrap (air barrier) or upgrade existing house-wrap from tarpaper to Tyvek.
- Replace old windows with high-quality new-construction windows. This is preferable to putting in replacement windows.
- Sheathing gets a lot of weather. Is it in good condition? Replace parts of sheathing, as needed.
- Add wiring for exterior lights or electrical receptacle.
- Add wiring for interior wiring or lights. This is only if you do not plan to open up the interior walls.
- Add good, batted insulation.
- Add thin panels of foam insulation between sheathing and siding.
- Sister failing wall studs.
- Screw loose pieces of sheathing back into place, provided sheathing is in good condition.
