Yes, many large metro areas have architectural salvage places where you can sell your fixtures. For instance, in Washington, DC, where I once lived, there is a place called The Brass Knob where homeowners sell or buy various old things from houses. Searching Google for "architectural salvage", I see a few listings.
These things are definitely worth money. If your house was built before 1945, practically everything imaginable can be sold--even down to the smallest screw and doorknob.
When I replaced windows, I put a listing on a do-it-yourself forum saying that I had free old leaded-glass windows for anyone who wanted to pick them up. Expecting nothing, I instead got a flood of replies. I even had people from out of state who offered to pay shipping costs. Later, I learned that these were all merchants who wanted to make a profit on them--convert them into mirrors or simply to resell them.
Like you, I would have been happy to give them away to a similarly-minded home renovator. It was difficult to get past the idea of giving away free things to someone so they could profit off of them. But it's harder to get past the idea of land-filling these items.
Freecycle and Craig's List might also be good places to look for people who are interested.
