Another variety is found with the DeWalt cordless nailers, which do not use gas canisters at all. Their nailers use a flywheel type technology powered by lithium ion batteries. These batteries, they advertise, have a one-hour recharge rate. Also, most of the DeWalt models can fire 3-5 nails per second. This is plenty fast for any homeowner doing DIY work.

Most of these DeWalt nailers fire full-size 16 gauge nails. However, for lighter needs, they do have an 18 gauge brad nailer (remember, gauges go backwards - smaller numbers are bigger). If you are a homeowner, you may really want to do some soul-searching, because you may decide that a brad nailer is for you. No, these are nothing like the cheap, flimsy 1/4" Arrow electric brad nailers you find at your local Ace Hardware. These DeWalt brad nailers are perfectly capable of handing all of your trim needs, and even more.

You can still fire nails up to 2 inches long. Also, you do save about half a pound in weight and the profile is a bit slimmer. In fact, you save about one inch in all directions. Yes, it's still big, but every inch counts when you're working in tight spaces. And that half-pound savings, while not immediately apparent, will become quite apparent after you have been nailing trim for the last 2 hours.
