Measure Sixteen Inches On Center to Find a Stud

Studs are generally set sixteen inches on-center. So, once you've found one stud, you can find the adjacent stud by measuring sixteen inches horizontally.

While this technique gets you to the general location of the next stud, it's not accurate enough to start pounding nails. Again, the stud finder will help narrow things down. We'll use the stud finder in the next step.
