Do You Need a Window Well to Install a Basement Window?

When you install a basement window, often you need to dig a window well on the exterior. The window well is your opening to the outside world, so that the basement window can bring in air and light. Otherwise, the basement window would be opening straight into dirt.

It is worth noting that you do not always need to dig a window well. Often, due to the grade (the ground outside), your foundation may have a clear shot to the outside.

Digging a window well is a time-consuming project that may be worth hiring a contractor for.
