Weatherize or Replace Windows?

By , About.com Guide

If you have an older home, you may be confronted with the issue of whether or not to weatherize or replace your windows. On the one hand, weatherizing the window is cheaper and faster, but it usually will not do as good a job at saving energy as a full-out replacement. On the other hand, replacing your windows is a sure energy saver, but you need to attend to the problems of cashflow (new windows are expensive!) and the disruption of your house.

Your local energy company can usually perform an energy audit for free or low-cost and help you sovle the problem of weatherizing or replacing your windows.
