Window Units and Casement Windows

The cons seem to outweigh the pros when it comes to casement windows. Casement windows have balky mechanisms; can get ripped away in a strong wind gust; and opened casement window sashes can conflict with each other.

One good thing: casement windows afford great air ventilation.

Here's one more "con" to add to the casement window issue. If you have air conditioner window units, they will not fit in casement windows. Window units fit best in double-hung windows because the sliding sash can close down to seal off the window unit. But casement sashes cannot do this. Not only that, casement window sashes do not open far enough to allow you to install the window unit.
